Steward's Report
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed ‘Heat Affected’. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 24.6 degrees and the kennel temperature was 16.4 degrees. Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue, as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
Pursuant to the GRV Hot Weather Policy, Stewards dispensed with two requirements prior to Race 1, meaning greyhounds were no longer required to remain on course for the specified time, and that the parading of greyhounds was to occur, as the outside temperature had decreased to 20.0 degrees.
Wondeful Work, Tarwillie and Dustin were quick to begin. Victory Exam was slow to begin.
Smash (began losing ground turning out of the front straight and subsequently tailed off) underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined following Race 7. Smash was found to have injuries to the left thigh and triangle muscles, as well as abrasions to the right stifle. A 14 day stand down period was imposed.
A post-race urine sample was taken from Dustin - the winner of the event.
