In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed ‘Heat Affected’. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 30.0 degrees and the kennel temperature 16.8 degrees. Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue, as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.

Last Cast and Aston Forbes were slow to begin.

Last Cast (turned its head outwards in the back straight), underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined after race 4 - no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to Mr. Bruce Jacobs regarding the racing manners of Last Cast in the back straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 124, Last Cast was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr. Jacobs pleaded guilty to the charge. Last Cast was suspended for 28 days (1st offence) at Bendigo and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.

A post-race urine sample was taken from Alcatraz Birdman - winner of the event. 

Pursuant to the GRV Hot Weather Policy, Stewards dispensed with two requirements prior to Race 3, meaning greyhounds were no longer required to remain on course for the specified time, and that the parading of greyhounds was to occur, as the outside temperature had decreased to a reasonable level

Pursuant to GAR 75(6), Lure Driver - Mr. B. Rogers did not act in any official capacity that may have in any way affected the outcome of this event.  Mr. M. Pell substituted for Mr. Rogers for this event.

Absolutely Frank (checked soon after the start, approaching the first turn and lost ground in the home straight), underwent a post-race veterinary examination was re-examined following race 5. It was reported that the greyhound was found to have a left hock sprain, a left wrist sprain a spike wound on the right fore and an abrasion on the right hind. A 10 day stand down period was imposed.

Mincher Magic (turned its head outwards in the home straight), underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained left pectoral muscle and right gracilis muscle injuries. A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr. Brian Brown regarding the racing manners of Mincher Magic in the back straight.   Acting under the provisions of GAR 125, Mincher Magic was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Brown pleaded guilty to the charge. Mincher Magic must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 125, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.

Acoustic Flash and Zipping Swazi were quick to begin.  Cabao Dewberry was slow to begin.

Sir Bingo (checked soon after the start and lost ground), underwent a post-race veterinary eamination - no apparent injury was reported. 

Flyin' Ethics (checked soon after the start and lost ground), underwent a post-race veterinary examination.  It was reported that the greyhound was found to be injured in the right gracilis muscle.  A 28 day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to Mr. Bruce Stirling regarding the racing manners of Thunder Bay in the home straight.  Mr. Stirling declined the option to have the greyhound examined by the On-track Veterinarian. Acting under the provisions of GAR 123, Thunder Bay was charged with marring. Mr. Stirling pleaded guilty to the charge. Thunder Bay was found guilty and suspended for three months (3rd offence) all tracks and must perform two Satisfactory Trials in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.

My Mate Hux underwent a post–race veterinary examination – no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to Mr. Barry Hall regarding the greyhound’s racing manners after being marred by Thunder Bay in the home straight. After hearing evidence from Mr. Hall, viewing all the available race footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards took no further action. In arriving at this decision, Stewards took into consideration that My Mate Hux had been severely impeded by Thunder Bay.  

Zorilla (severely checked and lost ground turning into home straight) underwent a post–race veterinary examination – no apparent injury was reported.
