Greyhounds Available for Adoption

GAP dog
Children

While all greyhounds are tolerant of children, some enjoy their company more than others. This symbol indicates dogs that we feel are particularly suited to homes with children.

Dogs

Some greys are fine as an only dog, others need company. This symbol indicates that the dog would be happiest in a home with a canine friend to play with.

Cats

This indicates that the greyhound is happy to live with cats.

Livestock

Most of our dogs are not tested with livestock. This symbol indicates that the dog has been fostered with horses, cows etc and is comfortable around them.

Poultry

Most of our dogs are not tested with poultry. This symbol indicates that the dog has been fostered with poultry and is comfortable with them.

GAP Greyhounds

All greyhounds adopted from GAP are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, and health checked. During the foster process they quickly and easily make the transition from being a racing animal to pet.

Such is the stringent nature of the GAP assessment processes that the Victorian government legislates that greyhounds successfully passing through GAP no longer have to be muzzled in public.

SAM (was PUP)

SAM (was PUP)

Age: 7 years old (whelped 20 May 2006)

Racing Name: WHICH WABBIT

Sam has been living as a pet for 3 years and his owner was devastated to have to return him to GAP but knew it was in his best interests. Sam is an easygoing, affectionate dog who likes to be a big part of his family's life. His ideal home would be one where he will receive lots of attention and affection and be inside with you. Sam does have a bit of an opinion of himself and considers himself the patriach of his family. He gets along best with doggy girlfriends or submissive male canine buddies. He's a bit like the 3 bears in that he doesn't like it too hot or too cold - he's happy when it's "just right". Sam would be better with children over 10. He is not cat friendly.

SAM (was PUP) is available for adoption now!

JAY
Dogs

JAY

Age: 2 years old (whelped 18 Feb 2012)

Microchip: 956000008202133

Many of you want a young dog, so here one is! Jay is an inquisitive dog who likes to be around his people. He is extremely puppyish, playful and active and he'll need a home with plenty of activity, training and stimulation to keep him out of mischief. He especially loves rope toys. Jay knows how to sit and he'll do so for his dinner. Jay needs a yard to run around in and plenty of shade and/or a clam pool, as he feels the heat very badly. Jay doesn't like car travel at all. He is looking for an experienced owner who is happy to take on a puppy and provide him with consistent boundaries. Jay does play roughly with other dogs, so he needs robust, larger canine playmates. He would suit a home with school aged children. He is not cat or poultry friendly.

JAY is available for adoption now!

PONY

PONY

Age: 4 years old (whelped 16 Oct 2009)

Racing Name: PONY TIME

Microchip: 956000008239336

No, she's NOT a pony and can't be ridden! Some people consider Greyhounds to be almost as big as a horse but Pony certainly isn't one of them. Like her brother Kirk, Pony is shy and submissive at first. Once she feels a bit more comfortable with you, she becomes quietly friendly. Pony is looking forward to furthering her life experiences in foster care. She would be happier in a home without noisy young children. She is not cat friendly.

PONY has a home waiting.

WILLY
Dogs

WILLY

Age: 4 years old (whelped 04 Jan 2010)

Racing Name: BO WILFRED

Microchip: 956000008268107

Willy is a very striking red fawn boy and he knows people will want to take him home just because of his good looks! While he wasn't the greatest race dog in the world, he did have a few starts but decided that chilling out on a couch would be much easier. Willy is a very exuberant, talkative boy who likes attention. He is a fussy eater and a lazy couch potato. He can be strong on lead and would knock a small child or elderly person over. Willy would suit an adult household with a confident, experienced owner to remind him of his place and instil boundaries. Obedience training would see him shine. Willy is not cat, poultry or guinea pig friendly.

WILLY will be available for adoption end April.

ANDY

ANDY

Age: 2 years old (whelped 28 Mar 2012)

Microchip: 956000008463423

As he is still very much a youngster, Andy still has a lot of puppyish ways about him. He is curious, bouncy, lively and at times a little silly. However, if you're wanting a young dog, these are probably the sorts of character traits you're looking for! . He is not cat friendly.

ANDY has a home waiting.

SAL

SAL

Age: 1 year old (whelped 25 May 2012)

Microchip: 956000008567715

Sal is a real water baby! After taking this photo, Sal decided to have a lie down in the wading pool. Smart boy! Sal is a very lively, active and at times excitable youngster. He is a typical adolescent who likes to be into everything. He is not cat friendly.

SAL will be available for adoption May.

BEE BEE

BEE BEE

Age: 2 years old (whelped 02 Aug 2011)

Microchip: 956000008319582

Bee Bee is quite well named, as she's always buzzing around somewhere! She is not at all like her sister Sallie in nature. Bee Bee is the opposite end of the scale, being puppyish and a little silly. She does share her sister's friendly, agreeable nature though. Bee Bee does play a little too rough to be able to live with very small dogs. She is not cat friendly.

BEE BEE will be available for adoption May.

SOCKY

SOCKY

Age: 2 years old (whelped 22 Aug 2011)

Microchip: 956000008235642

So many adoptees seem to want small females, so here she is! Don't let her small size fool you into thinking Socky is easy to manage - she's a livewire! She is very playful, excitable and active. Socky likes to dart about and she leans into you when trying to walk on lead. She is very active and does play with great enthusiasm, so she wouldn't suit a home with a very frail or tiny dog. Socky would accidentally knock small children over in her excitement. She is not cat friendly.

SOCKY will be available for adoption May.

RODNEY

RODNEY

Age: 8 years old (whelped 03 Feb 2006)

Racing Name: FURYAN

Here's Rodney in his jammies! Rodney is a quieter gent looking for a fuss free home as a single dog. He is looking forward to the next stage of his life. Rodney is a little bewildered after being moved from his long time home, so we're hoping he'll be back in a loving home soon. He is not cat friendly.

RODNEY will be available for adoption early May.
